Going to school in the cumberland valley gives us great access to local state parks.
Since the weather has been so awesome this spring, my friends and I love spending our afternoons being outside and exploring different trails and such. We had just recently visited Pine Grove Furnace State Park just miles from Newville. Pine Grove has many great features from its lakes to it's trails and even it's historical features which is just one reason it attracted us.
We had heard from other students at school about this amazing overlook that was here, called Pole Steeple and just had to check it out. Once we got there, we pulled right up to the bottom of the trail and begin our trek upwards. I must say this was most definitely a more advanced trail...or maybe just for me who is out of shape. It contains some steep climbing but once you get to the top it is worth the pain. The entire park can be viewed from the Pole Steeple overlook, which is a quartzite rock outcropping. Many people often attempt to free climb up the face of it, which I had the pleasure of doing (and succeeded).
Words can't describe the awe one is put in once making it to the top and experiencing the view. The photos I have up do not do it justice, it is something you will have to experience yourself. I apologize for the quality of the photos, they were taken on my phone...
